Nanda Devi Raj Jat, the rare pilgrimage that takes place in the Himalayas once in twelve years, was scheduled and publicized at large scale last year. However, it was cancelled due to devastating floods and landslips that ravaged Uttarakhand, the venue for the religious adventure, in June 2013. This event would start from Nauti (Chamoli, Uttarakhand) on August 17th, 2014.
Traditionally done on foot, the pilgrimage is dedicated to Goddesses Nanda Devi. The Nanda Devi Doli and four-horn ram would accompany the devotees from the host region and other parts of the country. The trail runs via famous mysterious lakes Roopkund and Homekund.
The devotees walk 280-kilometer long trail running across the Garhwal and the Kumaon Himalayas in twenty (20) days. The royal family of Kansuwa village would lead the procession whose highlight is the Doli of Nanda Devi. Another highlight of the trail is Brahma Kamal.
