Shri Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra that was due for the year 2012 was postponed for 2013 and subsequently postponed again for 2014 due to floods and natural calamities in Uttarakhand. The legendary Yatra (holy journey) is taking place in the monsoons of 2014 and would witness thousands of devotees from across the world. A large number of people from across the world will participate in 2014 Nanda Raj Jat Yatra 2014, and get a close look at the culture, faith and geography of Uttarakhand. The Yatra is once in a lifetime experience to witness the cult for those who maintain deep sentiments for goddess Nanda Devi.

Nanda devi Raj jat Yatra 2014 is an arduous journey (it's a trek) and the three weeks of yatra are packed with the exposure of Garhwal Himalaya culture, the ethnic lifestyle and the endemic flora & fauna of the region. Majority of yatra route will be along the Pindar valley. Most people find yatra as 'nothing' where masses of people mobs to witness the Doli and the four-horned holy sheep (Khadu / Meda) at every village the Yatra halts by at night.

The Mystic Yatra
Nanda devi - the goddess, daughter of Kings of mountains - is the spiritual goddess for natives of Garhwal and Kumaon region. The goddess visits her mothers place in these mountains in Bhado - months of August - and her visit is rejoiced by local citizens as a festive time. Every 12-years this occasion becomes all more important and hence the Yatra.
Nanda devi raj jat happens once in 12 years - the journey starts from Nauti village accompanying a mystical four-horned sheep and Doli. In about three weeks time this festive and spiritual journey reaches theRoopkund Lake and to Homkund Lake where they leave the sheep (Khadu) beyond this point, and from here it proceeds on its further journey into the mountains alone and vanishes in the wild.
